Guide to Consultation for Foreign Patients

1. For foreign patients who wish to receive a consultation at this hospital

  • Patients who live outside of Japan:
    1. The first visit reservation is accepted only from a medical facility.
    2. First-time visitor reception is from 8:30AM to 11AM on weekdays.
    3. Note that re-visiting patients with appointments will be prioritized, so please understand if it takes a while for you to be seen.
    4. A medical treatment fee of 5,400yen will be required if a referral letter is not submitted.
    5. For the Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, and Otorhinolaryngology Department, a referral letter is absolutely necessary.
    6. All referral letters must be either in Japanese or English.
    7. If you do not have valid Japanese public health insurance, treatment fees (excluding disposable medical equipment, medication, etc.) will be calculated at a rate of 30yen per point.
    8. If the patient cannot communicate in Japanese, please bring or ask for an interpreter.
    9. The hospital can provide assistance by a medical interpreter with a charge (reservations are necessary).
    10. We do not support patients in obtaining a visa.

    If it is difficult for the patient to make travel arrangements to Japan, please contact organizations such as “Medical Excellence Japan” or “Japan Medical & Health Tourism Center” for assistance.

  • Patients who live in Japan:
    If you are referred to this hospital by your regular medical institution, please make any enquiries to that medical institution with regard to details, such as consultation days. Your first appointment for this hospital can be made from at your regular institution.

2. The Medical treatment fees

In our Hospital, from 1st November 2014, the medical treatment fees for patients who do not possess Japanese citizenship and do not have any valid public health insurance in Japan will be calculated at a rate of 30 yen per point.
However, regarding disposable medical equipment, medication, etc., the medical treatment fees will be calculated at a rate of 10 yen per point.

3. A Guide for Medical Interpreter

Osaka University Hospital makes it a rule to provide patient’s medical care with safety and security.
However, if we cannot communicate with a patient in Japanese, it would be difficult to provide safe medical treatment.
When we think it difficult to communicate with a patient in Japanese, we arrange medical interpreters at the following rates. A reservation is necessary.

The Center for Global Health was founded at the department of Medical Innovation on 1st April 2013, "The Department of Global and Innovative Medicine" was established at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine on 1st July 2014.
In the field of education, "Translational Medical Research Human Resources Center Creation Project" enacted by *MEXT and working on a global education. Also the Hospital is authorized as a regional base hospital accepting international patients, based on the "International Patient Admission Environment Improvement Project for Medical Institutions" as well as "International Doctor’s Training Admission Project" enacted by *MHLW.
CGH focus on patient care by providing assistance to non-Japanese patients requiring advanced treatment and also emphasizes educational efforts by offering training for health care professionals who treat non-Japanese speaking patients. We will enhance to medical globalization with a strong expertise in foreign language education or international relations. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
