General Information

We had our Japan Medical Service Accreditation for International Patients (JMIP) re-audited. 2019-03-29

On January 22nd and 23rd, Osaka University Hospital (OUH) received re-audited of Japan Medical Service Accreditation for International Patients (JMIP). JMIP is an accreditation system as a third party that assess whether medical institution is able to accept international patients or not. OUH got the first certification as a national university hospital in March 2016. The certification is expired every three years, so that we have tried to review again.

The surveyors of JMIP conducted “Document Checks” “Joint Personnel Interviews”and “Round Survey” for 5 elements:
1) “System to accept” in the multi-lingual,
2) “Patient service” along with a consideration of cultural and religious,
3) “Medical management for foreign patients”,
4) “Organization system and management” for accepting foreign patients
5) “Efforts for improvement to meet the needs of foreign patients”

For the “Round Survey”, surveyors actually visited outpatients, wards and receptions, and conducted interviews to our staff how they are dealing with foreign patients, and investigated the in-hospital indication, signs and documents written by multi-languages.

At the wrap up meeting after the 5 step survey over the two days, although some small issues were pointed out, they were highly evaluated as "There have already been developed for accepting patients with severe illness or condition”. Consequently, we are pleased to announce that OUH was successfully accredited on March 15.

Foreigners are expected to have more opportunities to visit Japan, especially Osaka, because we will have the G20 in June, the Rugby World Cup in September this year, and the Tokyo Olympic games next year. Furthermore Osaka Expo will be held in 2025. At OUH, we will continue to make efforts and build infrastructure for accepting international patients in order to make them feel more comfortable.
