Urology
Clinical Services
Director of Urology
The Department of Urology provides highly specialized care for diseases of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and male reproductive organs.
With a broad clinical scope and advanced medical technologies, we deliver the most appropriate treatment for each patient.
•Malignant Tumors:
We perform nearly 500 urologic cancer surgeries annually, most of which are conducted using minimally invasive techniques, including endoscopic and robotic surgery.
For the increasing number of patients with prostate cancer, we offer a variety of treatment options in collaboration with the Department of Radiation Oncology, such as VMAT and CyberKnife therapy, in addition to surgery.
For small renal tumors, we actively perform both robot-assisted partial nephrectomy and cryoablation.
We also provide a wide range of systemic therapies for advanced malignancies, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
•Male Infertility:
In collaboration with the Reproductive Medicine Center, we offer state-of-the-art assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and comprehensive evaluation for male infertility.
•Voiding Disorders:
We actively perform laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia, as well as artificial urinary sphincter implantation for post-prostatectomy incontinence.
•Kidney Transplantation:
Since performing our first kidney transplant in 1965, we have completed more than 1,200 procedures to date.
With nearly 70 kidney transplants annually, we rank among the leading institutions in Japan for transplant volume and outcomes.
Distinctive Features
•Comprehensive Care Across All Age Groups:
We treat urological diseases prevalent in the elderly, as well as conditions affecting younger and middle-aged men, such as male infertility and testicular cancer.
•Cutting-edge Technology and Thorough Communication:
We utilize robot-assisted surgery, CyberKnife stereotactic radiotherapy, and other advanced technologies to provide optimal treatments.
At the same time, we offer clear and careful explanations of each treatment option, ensuring patients feel informed and confident in their care.
•Highly Specialized Multidisciplinary Teams:
We have established dedicated centers such as the Prostate Cancer Center, where urologists and radiation oncologists collaborate to deliver individualized, evidence-based therapy.
Similarly, at the Reproductive Medicine Center, urologists work closely with obstetricians, gynecologists, and pediatricians to provide integrated infertility care.
Patients are fully informed about each treatment option before deciding on their preferred plan.
•Extensive Experience in Cancer Chemotherapy:
Our department has substantial experience in systemic chemotherapy for advanced urological malignancies and continues to pursue aggressive and comprehensive treatment approaches.
Robot-assisted Surgery for Urologic Cancers
At Osaka University Hospital, the da Vinci Surgical System was introduced in October 2012.
We now perform over 200 robot-assisted surgeries each year, covering a wide range of urologic cancers including prostate, bladder, upper urinary tract, and kidney cancers.
Our team continues to advance minimally invasive oncologic surgery through innovation, experience, and precision.
